ādi śankarāċārya’s birth anniversary (śankara jayantī) is observed on śuddha pañċami of vaiśākha month.

In kali yuga, śankarāċārya is considered as the first saint who consolidated the doctrine of advaita vēdānta (अद्वैत वेदान्त) and revive it at a time when Hindutvā culture (bhāratīya sanātana dharma) was in decline.

śankarāċārya, along with mādhvāċārya and rāmānujāċārya, was instrumental in the revival of sanātana dharma.  The doctrines taught by these three teachers are followed even today.

Lord dattātrēya is considered the ādi guru – guru of all the yogis.  Therefore, in reverence to śankarāċārya, we offer special prayers to ādi guru dattātrēya on śankara jayantī.
