Saturn (śanī) is one of the most influential planets for most humans on earth. The influence of saturn on one’s life depends on the individuals rāśī and where saturn is currently positioned. It is not uncommon for patrons to do special pūjās to śanīśvāra to alleviate some of the debilitating effects that we perceive during such periods.
Affected rāśīs for May 24, 2025, are kumbha, mīna, meṣa, simha, kanya and dhanusu
When trayodaśī falls on a Saturday (śanivāra), śani trayodaśī is observed. This combination is considered highly auspicious for seeking blessings from śanīśvara particularly for karmic purification and prosperity. śani trayodaśī is a good time to seek blessings to clear karmic debts and bring harmony and abundance into ones life.
Observance of certain rituals on śani trayodaśī can bring good fortune, reduce mental distress, and remove obstacles that hinder personal well-being and success.
At our temple, we facilitate these rituals by allowing devotees perform tailābhiṣekam for śanīśvara. This will be followed by a brief homa and the pūjā, which includes the chanting of 108 names (śatanāmāvalī) of śanīśvara.
Devotees may bring a small amount of sesame oil (less than 2 fl oz), a teaspoon of black sesame, some flowers and fruits.
