The program includes:

  • madhurābhiṣekamj (abhiṣekam with honey)
  • chanting hanumān cālīsā eleven times
  • uttara pūjā

Lord hanumān is known by many other names such as ānjanēya, pavanaputra, bajrangbali, mārutī, etc. He is one of the aṣṭa ċiranjīvīs. He was a very devoted follower of Lord śrī rāma. It is believed that worshipping Lord hanumān can remove all the obstacles in one’s life and lead to fulfilment of one’s desires.

In Telugu-speaking states, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, hanumān jayantī is observed on vaiśākha bahuḷa daśami (late May / early June). In North India, it is observed on ċaitra pūrṇimā (in April). Yet, in other southern states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, it is observed on mārgaśirsa amāvāsyā (in late December / early January).

The relevance between ānjanēya to śirḍī sāī bābā:
śirḍī sāī bābā is considered to be an incarnation, manifestation or avatār of hanumān.  This connection arises from various sources, including the śrīpāda śrīvallabha ċaritāmṛt, which suggests Hanuman merged with Lord datta, who was reborn as bābā in śirḍi. This makes bābā a datta ava avatār tar and a hanumān avatār.

A temple dedicated to hanuman exists in śirḍī.  Bābā Is known to have frequented the area, sometimes even spending significant amount of time in front of the temple.

sāī bābā’s emphasis on devotion and service to others echoes hanumān’s unwavering loyalty to Lord rāma, reinforcing the spiritual bond between these two divine figures.
