The Miracle of Faith: A Short Story from Shirdi
In the early days of Shirdi, when Sai Baba lived in the humble Dwarkamai, people came to him with every kind of worry—illness, poverty, fear, and doubt. Among them was a man named Bapusaheb Buti, a devoted follower who often struggled with anxiety. Though he believed in Baba, his mind wavered whenever life became difficult.
One afternoon, Buti approached Baba with a troubled heart. Before he could speak, Baba looked at him with calm, steady eyes and said, “Why fear when I am here?”
Those simple words struck Buti deeply. Baba then pointed to a small oil lamp flickering in the corner of Dwarkamai.
“Look at that flame,” Baba said. “It burns steadily because it trusts the oil that feeds it. In the same way, let your heart burn with faith, and let my grace be the oil that sustains it.”
Buti watched the lamp. Even as the wind blew through the open doorway, the flame danced but never went out. In that moment, he understood: life’s storms may shake us, but faith keeps us steady.
From that day on, Buti carried Baba’s words like a shield. Whenever fear rose within him, he remembered the lamp in Dwarkamai—and the Guru who taught him that true strength comes from surrender.
This small moment, preserved in the spirit of the Sai Satcharita, continues to inspire devotees today. It reminds us that Sai Baba’s presence is not just in Shirdi—it lives in every heart that trusts him.
